Odd [29 Nov 2007|01:16am]
Has anyone else noticed that, in movies and television, people seem to be able to see perfectly, under water, without the aid of goggles?

I need to find out who these people have as an optometrist, cus wow, that's some eyesight.

A comparison [29 Nov 2007|12:56am]
Recently, a friend and I were discussing the current Macbooks.

I said I didn't like them because, much like all laptops out there right now, they kinda look like bricks.

If Apple restyled their laptops back to the way they looked when I bought mine, I'd be all on top of it. I'd buy one as soon as possible. Mine is bulky, and heavy, but awesome looking. If they could make them as slim as todays notebooks, it'd be a no-brainer.

I made a picture to compare, here it is:

I resized the images so that you can't really tell the size difference, as that's not what we are going on here.

If these laptops were exactly the same in features, size, and weight... which one would you buy? I'd buy the one on the left, for sure. It's just dead sexy compared to the one on the right :) (Just flip the Apple logo on the left one vertically. It was an oversight I think they made, in that when you opened the laptop and looked at it from the back, the Apple logo was upside down... that's not the case on the current Macbooks.)

Vista [29 Nov 2007|12:33am]
Originally posted as a comment in someone else's journal:

I don't use Vista myself, but it is on my mother's PC.

The people bitching about Vista generally fall into one or more of the three following categories:

A) They own printers/scanners/etc that are 900 years old, and still use parallel cables to connect to the PC. Good luck finding drivers.

B) They use Microsoft Office '97, because they got it for free the last time they bought a computer, back in 1996.

C) They are "Hardcore Gamers" who need a new PC to play Bioshock but get pissy cus it won't play Wolfenstein 3D too.

Also, all the things people are bitching about with Vista? Yeah, it's all the same shit people bitched about with Windows XP.

As for Macs, they're great, I own one, although its ancient by today's standards. Back in the day (like 1992), Macs were just as viable as PCs with just about the same availability of software. Now however, the only thing I do on a computer that I can do on a Mac is surf the internet, listen to music, watch videos and talk to people. Gaming is practically non-existant on Apple computers. And their lowest model costs roughly $1200. I would love to own another Mac, but it's just not worth the price tag for me, especially since I can't game.

And people still think that Macs are better for graphics and desktop publishing and the like, but they aren't anymore. 95% of the reason they were better for that was because they used different processors and graphics hardware than PCs did. But now, all Macs run intel processors and intel graphics chipsets. So... how can they be better than PCs?

The other 5% was the OS, which at the time was written from the ground up, but now, Mac OS is basically just a highly customized version of Unix (Linux is another).

I find it slightly amusing that I am typing this on a computer running Windows XP, and am using Apple's Safari web browser to do so...

I saw an acura commercial just a few minutes ago

"Sattelite linked cabin climate control"

apparently, this acura has a feature where it adjusts the cabin temperature depending upon which direction you are facing and which direction the sun is relative to your car.

Are we out of ideas already? Is this the best use we can come up with for sattelites? Are they that cheap now?

Have you seen Alicia Keys in the new target commercial? She's playing a round piano and talking about her new album. Well at the end, they have this shot where she stands up, and the camera is shooting down from above. She's doing this.... dancing-ish thing (if you can call it that), and she really just looks like she's having a seizure or something.

Video Here: http://video.aol.com/video-detail/alicia-keys-as-i-am-target-commercial/1274907295

It just looks tragic. I could only find video of the 30 second spot, I believe the one I've been seeing most is 60 seconds... and it's much worse there than in the above video, but you get the point.

Also, why does everyone think she's so hot? She looks way plastic in this video. Maybe they just messed up her make up, but yeah, not all that attractive.

Jehova's witnesses left this at Laura's house. He's the most modern jesus I've ever seen, and I started refering to him as Hip Jesus. So I had to scan it and share it with the internets. :P

You want me to pay what? For WATER!? [03 May 2007|12:01am]
Laura and I went to see Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theatres today.

We forgot beverages so we figured we'd just buy bottles of water at the theatre.

Now, I know movie theatres overcharge for their concessions but I never expected this...

A single 24 ounce bottle of water is THREE Fucking dollars and ten cents.

For fucking WATER.

$3.10 a bottle.

Like I said, I know they overcharge for most of their stuff, but that is Ri-god-damn-diculous.

The Olden Days [07 Dec 2006|05:30pm]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

This entry may be a bit odd - and forgive me for any "guy stuff" I am one, after all. :P

I miss the old internet. I miss the wonder and amazement every time my 2400 bps modem dialed up, and made those familiar noises.

I miss the black and white screen of my Macintosh classic.

I miss AOL 2.7 for Mac... and being ignorant enough at the time to think we were better than windows users cus our version number was higher :-P

I miss the thrill of downloading a game for free, and not having to worry about viruses.

I miss pop-up ads not existing.

I miss chat rooms, where everyone had something intelligent to say, and trolls were still a thing of stories.

I miss when a 56k modem was blazing fast.

I miss the globe, and six degrees.

I miss finding porn only when you were looking for it, and not having to be taken by surprise when the picture you downloaded was actually child porn or bestiality.

I miss searching for something with the word "free" and finding what you were actually looking for within the first 5 results.

I miss the days when midi files ate up your hard drive like mp3s do now.

I miss when animated gifs were an exciting new technology.

I miss roleplaying online when people didn't get pissed off and think you were a bad roleplayer if you didn't write a novel each time you wanted your character to blink.

All in all I miss the simplicity. I love the internet today, you can find so many things, buy stuff you'd never find in your hometown, and meet interesting people quite easily (like my wonderful girlfriend). But sometimes I miss the old days. I can't believe I'm waxing nostalgic about the internet.
